Women Leading Change in Mexican Communities
In Mexico’s forests, women are stepping forward as leaders and stewards of the land. Since 2018, more than 1,200 women have taken part in livelihood and leadership programs that pair sustainable forest management with community development. Their efforts include 75 women-led subprojects and new enterprises that generate reliable income while protecting ecosystems.
What began as economic support has grown into a broader transformation—where women once excluded from governance now shape decisions, share knowledge, and strengthen social networks. The result is not only healthier forests and more resilient communities, but a model that culminates in lasting change: women leading, nature thriving, and futures made more secure.
